Action. Residents of a North London council block barricade themselves inside a potential deathtrap to fight their own eviction.
SYNOPSIS
When a council block in North London is evacuated because of safety concerns following the Grenfell Tower fire, a group of angry residents storm the Town Hall in protest of the council’s neglect.
But when rumours spread that the council plan to sell off the land and demolish the building, the residents kidnap a security guard and a standoff between the tenants and council ensues.
The kidnapping is front page news and the residents become a media sensation - until the police violently storm the block, ending the protest and any hope of their community being saved.
DIRECTORS STATEMENT
Set in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire, as inner-city social housing is being pulled down to make way for multimillion pound private developments, this social action-drama pitches today’s disaffected working class against an unsympathetic government and sensationalist media.
Based on real events, including the storming of Kensington Town Hall by Grenfell Tower protesters and the evacuation of thousands of residents from the Chalcots Estate in Camden, North London, we are working with those being affected by ‘regeneration’ to capture their anger and frustration.
Influences include La Haine [Mathieu Kassovitz], Red Road [Andrea Arnold] and Ill Manors [Ben Drew].
